New Non Property Sales Tax- Effective October 1, 2017

On May 16, 2017, the voters in the City of Driggs approved, by a super majority, changes to the Non-Property Sales Tax Ordinance, which will take effect October 1, 2017.  These changes are meant to assist with property tax relief, general road and infrastructure improvements, grants for community services and projects, affordable housing, transportation, and capital improvements, just to name a few.

Changes to the tax include:

3% Room Occupancy Charge

Short term rentals, hotel-motel rooms, condominium units, tourist homes, vacation rentals and other sleeping accommodations.

2% Liquor By-the-drink

By-the-drink liquor, beer, and wine for consumption on premises or at any event or activity in the City of Driggs.

1% Prepared Foods

Furnishing, preparing or serving food, meals, drinks or non-depreciable goods and services directly consumed.

0.5% Retail Sales

All sales subject to taxation under the Idaho State Sales Tax Act, including by not limited to; retail sales, admission fees to events, rental or leasing of tangible items, etc.

Attention Nightly Rental Property Owners & Managers:

Nightly rentals of a private residence/room (ex. Airbnb, VRBO)

If you are renting your property or a portion thereof for a period less than 30 days in exchange for compensation, you must register as a business and ensure that state sales tax (6%), state lodging tax (2%) and Driggs lodging tax (3%) are all collected.
